Committee Name:
Public Policy Committee
Members/Chairs:
Amber Volk and Victoria Schwarzinger
Mission of the Public Policy Committee:
While the Minnesota Genetic Counselor Practice Act passed in 2016 and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice began issuing licenses in 2017, the need to keep the pulse on the MN legislature and public policy has not ended! The Public Policy committee’s mission is not only continued involvement with the MN legislature in tandem with our lobbyist, Matthew Bergeron, but also in support of reimbursement, access and delivery of genetic counseling services in MN.
Initiatives:
· Stay connected and involved as an organization at the state level; inclusive of input on and analysis of bills proposed that may impact genetic counselors and/or the services we provide.
· Day on the Hill to connect genetic counselors with their legislative representatives, building relationships not only towards national efforts, but to establish ourselves as experts for future state and national efforts.
· Develop tools and resources to assist in support of reimbursement of genetic counseling services.
· Support legislative efforts related to topics of telehealth reform, equity and access issues related to racial disparities in our health communities.
